Blueland Cleaning Products— do they get the job done?
I’m back with another Blueland review post. I posted a review on the Clean Essentials back in February. Our household has been using all the products and we’re enjoying them so far. I decided to go back to their website and order more products to see if they’d be a good fit for us.
The Packaging
The packaging is plastic-free. This makes me happy since I’m critical about packaging when it comes to products that are advertised as sustainable and eco-friendly. There weren’t any bubble wraps or plastic tape.
The Laundry Starter Set
$18, Blueland
This set comes with a steel tin that serves as a container for the laundry tabs. Each refill bag (compostable) comes with 40 fragrance-free tabs. The tablets are plastic-free. Most of the laundry pods in the market come in a dissolvable plastic plastic film. However, a recently published journal article found that these pods don’t fully dissolve and the chemicals are released in the waterways and soil. Blueland formulated these plastic-free tabs to solve that problem.
I’ve used the laundry tabs in three different loads and I liked them. The tabs fully dissolved. It also did a great job cleaning our clothes. I used two tabs for soiled clothes to fully clean them. I also haven’t had any allergic reaction to the product. I wish they would also produce fabric softeners or fragrance boosters for those people who like scent in their clothes (like I do).
I’m planning to buy a 3-pack refill when my tabs are almost done. That would save me 24% and it will cost around $0.267 per tab vs $0.25 per pod from a famous brand that’s plastic based.
The Cloud Cloth and Scrub Sponge
Cloud Cloth, $14 for 3, $20 for 6, Blueland
Scrub Sponge, $14 for 3, $18 for 6, Blueland
The Cloud Cloth
I absolutely love the Cloud Cloth! Our household uses a lot of paper towels for wiping spills and cleaning. I find it very wasteful so I thought that the Cloud Cloth would be a more environmentally friendly swap. One cloth can replace 1,500 paper towels! How cool is that? It’s also made of plant cellulose and all-natural cotton.
The cloth feels very sturdy and stiff at first but when you wet it, it gets more flexible and easier to use. I love how easy it is to store— they’re very thin and they hold their shape when they’re dry. I did a spill test of 1tbsp of water between a piece of a regular paper towel and the Cloud Cloth (photo above). I used the entire paper towel and the counter was still a little moist to the touch. The Cloud Cloth absorbed the water and there was still a lot of room for more spills.
What’s awesome about these Cloud Cloths is that I can toss them in the washer, dishwasher, or even boil them! I would definitely buy more of them so we can have a good amount that we can use at a time.
The Scrub Sponge
This sponge feels tough and stiff at first but when I wet it with water and added some dishwashing liquid, it was as manageable as a regular sponge. I love that there are two different sides: a scrub side (all-natural loofah) and a sponge side: (100% FSC-certified cellulose).
I tried washing some dishes with this scrub sponge. I used the sponge side for not-so- tough-to-wash dishes while I use the scrub side on the plates with some semi-hard food residue. It was easy to clean the dishes and I didn’t have to put on so much force and effort. I also tested how many plates and bowls one pump of dishwashing liquid on the scrub sponge would be able to clean and it was a whopping 12 (see photo above).
Overall, I think this scrub sponge is a great eco-friendly alternative to regular, plastic based sponges.
FINAL VERDICT
I will continue using Blueland products. They’re not just pretty (soooo chic) and sustainable but they also do the job they’re intended for well. The only products I don’t have from their line are the Pop-Up Sponge and the Dish Duo (Powder Dish Soap and Dishwasher Detergent). I will try to purchase them as well and provide my honest review on my website.
