I enjoyed reading this book. It was beautifully written. The author made me keep going and I couldn’t put it down. It’s a mixture of heaps of murder mystery and a dash of humor and romance. I have yet to read her previous books in this series but the reader doesn’t have to really read the previous ones to understand this book.
The book is about Antonia, an innkeeper, chef, and amateur sleuth in East Hamptons. She’s hired by Pauline Framingham, a wealthy heiress who controls the entire town, to investigate and solve a cold case from the 1990s when one of her best friends Susie was violently murdered. As a naturally nosy person, a history of success in solving crimes, and a monetary deal (Pauline would book all the rooms at her inn on her slowest month), she just couldn’t resist the deal. As Antonia investigates, she finds out that more and more people could be the suspect, finding the case difficult to solve when she’s caught in a web of lies. Who killed Susie? What was the motive of the crime? Who is telling the truth? Is Pauline really just a powerful bored wealthy woman who likes to manipulate people, hence, playing Antonia?
There were a lot of characters in this story but for one second, I was never lost. Each character is interesting and the story flowed smoothly. I never guessed who the real killer was until the author actually revealed it. There was a sprinkle of romance in this book as well and even that part was beautifully written. I really enjoyed this book and I would definitely read Carrie Doyle’s previous ones. I’m looking forward to her new book coming out in March.
