A powerful lawyer, who’s tired of sexist partners at the firm, and a charming California senator— this book tells the story of the power couple Olivia and Max and the difficulties of being under the spotlight. I love how both of the main characters in this book have strong personalities and admirable professions. Olivia, a lawyer who moved from New York to LA to build her own practice, and Max, a senator, have an adorable meet cute. They are opposites in a way that Max is impulsive and impatient while Olivia likes to think over things before making plans and decisions. Max pays attention to what Olivia says which makes it really sweet because let's face it, not all people remember what one says even when they're interested or in a relationship with them. Due to Max's high-profile job as a budding politician, they first have to hide their relationship from everyone. Despite their crazy schedules, they make sure to see each other once a week and spend quality time together. They support and build each other out to be the best that they can be in their careers and relationship-wise. The book also discusses sexism at the workplace, racism in general, and juvenile imprisonment. All the cake and pie references also activated my sweet tooth.
