Lisa Jewell did it again with her new book this year, Invisible Girl. This book is about the disappearance of Saffyre Maddox, a former patient of child psychologist, Roan Fours. Roan Fours is a fifty-something who is married to the perfect mother Cate Fours and they have two teenage children: 17-yr old overconfident Georgia and 14-yr old sweet and quiet Joshua. They're renting a flat in another town while waiting for their home renovations to be over. A series of sexual assault has been happening at that time. Across their street lives Owen Pick, a computer science lecturer at a college, who gets suspended from sexual assault accusations. Owen is a bit of an odd 33-yr old man who's been living in his aunt's house since he was 18. His mother is dead and his father remarried when his parents divorced.
Owen was accused of kidnapping Saffyre and spends some time in jail while the case is getting sorted out. Eventually, they find out what really happened to Saffyre.
There are a lot of backstory and twists in this book. It's about betrayal, infidelity, childhood trauma, assault, and other issues that are very relatable in present times. The ending had one final twist and I was hoping that justice is served to all concerning characters. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this book and I couldn't put it down.
